Money Can't Buy You Art: Non-Monetary Art Auction

Exotero ( ek - suh - teh - ro ) represets the desire for an accessible and communal art world - one that belongs to all. We stage participatory events that break down esoteric barriers and foster inclusive interactions. Exotero is run by four young creators : Sabrina, Charlotte, Miki and Isabel.

Come and bid on, or simply spectate, the incredible works up for auction by multidisciplinary, contemporary artists based across the UK: Rebecca Tucker, Shani Haquin, Henry Blackwell and Mernywernz!The aim of this project is to challenge the current perception of art as a commodity and propose an alternative way of assessing its value. Ultimately, the project aims to encourage young and emerging artists to re-evaluate how their work can be perceived and connect them with potential clients or future collaborators. HOW IT WORKS1. Each artist will share the stories behind their artworks, their ambitions and ideal offers.2. You can ask any questions to the artists before making decision.3. You can bid what you think is a ‘valuable’ offer in exchange for your favourite artwork!4. Artists choose their favourite offer. If your offer is chosen, the artist and you will sign the contract and exchange contact details.5. The exchange is organised after the event! GRAND RULES- We don’t take cash or card!- Trust is important. Please put your video on when you bid!- Participants will be sent each artist’s wishlist beforehand. Match them at the auction, or get creative and bid with your own unique offer! This event is collaboratively organised by YAMI-ICHI and Exotero Collective as a part of the <a href="https://exotero.wordpress.com/traversing-borders/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Traversing Borders programme</a>.
About YAMI-ICHI
YAMI-ICHI (‘Black market’ in Japanese) is an international art project that replicates a traditional art auction, but replaces cash payments with non-monetary trade-offs and exchanges. The project seeks to answer the question - ‘Other than monetary cost, how can art be valued?’. YAMI-ICHI challenges the current perception of art as a commodity in a capitalistic art market and to encourage young and emerging artists to re-evaluate how their work can be perceived and connect them with potential clients or future collaborators.
